TGIF! Here are some goodies for creating a Reader’s Notebook for your students. I created Reader’s Notebooks this summer at the St. Bonaventure Reading Center based on resources from the wonderful Beth Newingham. You can also read her Scholastic post about what Reader’s Workshop looks like in her classroom here. Visit her webpage for the complete collection of everything you need for a successful RW. I did “tweak” some of the documents (fonts & clipart) so they would match the theme I had for each reader and match the age group I was using them for (I know, I know… 🙂 ) I also created my own genre graphs so there would be one for each month of the year (including summer months).
I loved her idea of charting reading genres and having students closely monitor their own reading habits. When I reflected on my own reading habits, I noticed what genres I ALWAYS gravitate towards! When we learn about ourselves as readers it makes it easier to select books that we love.
Enjoy!
I loved the Books I planned to read chart.
