Last year Seuss Enterprises came down hard on the teachers who created any resources with the words Seuss or Cat in the Hat. It was a major bummer because it made it harder for teachers to find Seuss resources on TPT. It was also a major bummer for sellers because it was harder for us to spread the word about our products! Anyway, I had to revamp my Seuss unit (tear) and create the Read Across America unit instead. Same great literacy and math activities, but without the banned words. This year I am not teaching kindergarten. It’s events like Dr. Seuss’ birthday that make me miss those little kinders more than ever! This was always one of my favorite weeks of the school year. I love seeing how other teachers celebrate this special week dedicated to reading.
So how will you celebrate? In addition to my unit, I’m including a freebie reading award to use this week with your kids, along with a recipe for a Magical Reading Stew. When I used this in the past, we made our stew then read the stories that the stew was about. I loved the connections that my kids would come up with.
