Let’s not pretend like there is anyone out there that doesn’t text. Let’s also not pretend like there is any teacher out there who couldn’t benefit from saving a few extra minutes each day?!
The past two weeks I have been playing around with lots of things I’ve pinned and bookmarked but haven’t had a chance to check out during the school year. One of the things I’ve been dying to try is Remind101 for iPhones. It is a text generator app that allows you to send reminder texts to parents without them having your number! ARE YOU KIDDING ME? It rocks! Here’s how it works:
Download the app and create a class for yourself.
If you teach upper elementary/middle/high school, you can make as many classes as you want to and you can use it to remind students of things.
Give out your information.
Remind101 will give you a phone number to share with parents/students. All they have to do is send a text to that number with your class name and they will automatically be enrolled in text reminders! If you would like to see what it looks like when a parent enrolls, text @misseager to my number!
Parents can choose to enroll or not, but once you see how many parents join, you can see how much you can use this as a resource for communicating with parents!
You can also text individuals (for example: just your “room parents”, just parents that volunteered for something, etc).
With Remind101, parents can’t text back. It simply serves the purpose of providing a quick reminder. Imagine how many little slips of paper you could save (and not to mention– time!) Download it, play around with it and see how it could fit into your classroom this fall!
